Thyristor Surge Suppressor

Thyristor surge suppressors are semiconductor chips used to protect circuits and devices from over-voltage and over-current. A thyristor surge suppressor protects electronic equipment and sensitive audio and video devices from damaging power conditions.
Quantity:

Our company specializes in the manufacture and export of thyristor surge suppressor.

Introduction:

There are many different types of a surge suppression device. Examples include a surge line protection device, a power surge protection device, and a thyristor SCR. A surge line protection device protects incoming telephone and electrical lines. A power surge protection device protects or shields electronic devices against transient voltages from sudden surges in electrical power. A thyristor SCR is a silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) used with high current or high voltage applications to control an alternating current (AC). A thyristor control can be used to protect an electrical line that is located at an electric meter or main electrical panel. Specialized thyristor surge suppressors are also commonly available.

Thyristor Surge Suppressor Advantages:

Major advantages of the TSPD are its high surge current rating, low on-state crowbar voltage, and low capacitance. Disadvantages include broad breakover voltage tolerance, vulnerability to high di/dt excursions, premature turn-on from excessive dv /dt, and a minimum holding current for turn-off.

Thyristor Surge Suppressor Application:

Thyristor surge suppressors are used in many applications and comply with published standards for safety. Some thyristor surge suppressors are used to protect electronic circuits in computers, electronic appliances, or consumer goods. Others are used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Thyristor surge suppressors that bear the UL Mark comply with safety standards from Underwriters Laboratories (UL). Thyristor surge suppressors that comply with requirements from the European Union (EU) or other international or multi-national organizations also available.

Knowledge

1. What is Thyristor surge suppressors?

Thyristor surge suppressors are semiconductor chips used to protect circuits and devices from over-voltage and over-current. A thyristor surge suppressor protects electronic equipment and sensitive audio and video devices from damaging power conditions.

2. How does a Thyristor surge suppressor work?

A thyristor surge suppressor features a high-surge current capability of 50 amps and bidirectional protection. When a power surge occurs, the thyristor surge suppressor shorts-out to prevent continued operation.

3. Where to use Thyristor surge suppressor?

Thyristor surge suppressors are used in many applications and comply with published standards for safety. Some thyristor surge suppressors are used to protect electronic circuits in computers, electronic appliances, or consumer goods. Others are used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Thyristor surge suppressors that bear the UL Mark comply with safety standards from Underwriters Laboratories (UL). Thyristor surge suppressors that comply with requirements from the European Union (EU) or other international or multi-national organizations also available.

4. How to select Thyristor surge suppressor?

A Thyristor surge suppressor is selected to be invisible to the circuit operation and at the same time limit any line voltages to a specified maximum level, above which damage may occur to the circuit being protected. To achieve this the VDRM voltage must be greater than any line (signal) voltage and the VBO must be less than the equipment damage threshold level. The holding current must be higher than the maximum operating input current, otherwise the Thyristor surge suppressor will remain in the on-state after the transient surge is no longer there. Because leakage current, ID represents additional and unwanted loading on the electronic circuit ID needs to be kept as low as possible. Thyristor surge suppressor typically have ID in the low nano-Amp range.

The Thyristor surge suppressor operating temperature range must also be taken into account. The calculated VDRM for the application must not be less than the normal signal voltage levels over the full operating temperature range of the Thyristor surge suppressor. VBO falls as temperature of the device falls. This reduces the VDRM of the device and the peak signal level that can be applied without getting clipped.

5. What is the difference between a surge protector and a surge supprssor?

Surge suppressors differ from surge protectors in that surge protectors are basically just extension cords with minimal built-in protection (fuses, etc.). That is, the fuse or breaker may trip when voltage exceeds the limit set by the fuse or breaker. Quality surge suppressors, on the other hand, should be designed to clamp the voltage before any damage is done to the computer circuitry. This distinction, however, is complicated by the fact that many manufacturers use the two descriptions interchangeably.
