How should the grounding electrode design of an energy storage system (PCS) be adapted to soil resistivity?

The design of the PCS field grounding electrode must be adapted to the local soil resistivity to achieve the required grounding resistance value. The higher the soil resistivity, the more difficult it is to achieve a low grounding resistance. Adaptation design methods:

1. Measure soil resistivity: Use specialized instruments to measure and understand its layered structure.

2. Select grounding electrode type: In low-resistivity soils, a simple vertical grounding rod can be used; in high-resistivity soils, multiple grounding rods in parallel, a horizontal grounding grid, or the use of resistance-reducing agents (chemical or physical) to increase the contact area and conductivity with the soil are required.

3. Calculation and verification: Calculate the expected grounding resistance based on the soil resistivity and the selected grounding electrode configuration, and verify it by actual measurement after construction. A good grounding electrode design ensures the safe discharge of current by the PCS system in the event of lightning strikes or faults and provides a stable earth reference potential for EMC.
