What are the Main Parameters of Zener Diodes? Usage Precautions?

The main parameters of a Zener diode include rated reverse operating voltage (Vz), maximum Zener current (Izmax), maximum power dissipation (Pmax), temperature coefficient (TC), reverse leakage current (Ir), etc. Among these, the rated reverse operating voltage refers to the voltage level at which the Zener diode operates, the maximum Zener current is the current limit at which the Zener diode can function stably, the maximum power dissipation is the maximum power the Zener diode can withstand, the temperature coefficient indicates the effect of temperature changes on the Zener diode’s operating voltage, and the reverse leakage current refers to the magnitude of the reverse current of the Zener diode.

When using a Zener diode, the following precautions should be taken: First, select the appropriate Zener diode based on the required voltage and maximum Zener current. Second, avoid exceeding the maximum Zener current during power supply operation, as this may cause the Zener diode to overheat and become damaged. Third, due to the significant temperature coefficient of Zener diodes, efforts should be made to minimize the impact of temperature variations on their operating voltage. Finally, pay attention to the correct polarity connection to avoid reverse connection and overloading.
