How to design a surge protection solution for the CAN interface of an edge box?

The edge box CAN interface is used in vehicle or industrial control and needs to withstand 1kV surges. According to IEC61000-4-5, it is recommended to use the Audiotech CAN bus dedicated TVS ESDCANFD24VAPB. Its naming explanation is: ESD electrostatic protection, dedicated to CANFD bus, 24V shutdown voltage, 24V AP package, SOT-23, PB indicates bidirectional. This device has a VRWM=24V, a typical clamping voltage of 40V, and a junction capacitance of only 7pF, ensuring no delay for high-speed CANFD communication. It is paired with a common-mode inductor CML4532A-510T. This model CML common-mode inductor 4532 has a size of 4.5×3.2mm, and the 510T has an inductance of 51μH, which can suppress common-mode surge current. A gas discharge tube 2R090L-5.5X6 is connected in parallel to ground in CANH and CANL as primary coarse protection. Its naming is 2R with 090 at both ends and an operating voltage of 90V. L-type pins, 5.5×6 mm in size. Note that the GDT must be placed before the TVS, and the PCB traces should use differential equal length, 15mil width, 10mil spacing, shielding layer, single-end connection to chassis ground. Actual surge test ±2kV, smooth waveform. CAN bus bit error rate less than 10^-9, meeting the stringent requirements of power automation.
