Improving the immunity of RS485 communication in motion controllers requires enhanced interface protection and system grounding. Select RS485 transceiver chips with high ESD protection ratings. Install common-mode chokes and TVS protection arrays at the bus entry point. Strictly use twisted-pair cabling and install 120Ω terminating resistors at both ends of the bus. Ground the shielding layer at a single point on the controller. For long-distance or multi-node systems, use isolated RS485 transceivers to break ground loops. Provide isolated power to the transceivers. Add data verification and retransmission mechanisms to the software protocol. When wiring, keep the RS485 bus away from power lines.
Verify its immunity through testing: perform EFT and surge tests to monitor for communication interruptions or errors; conduct long-term communication tests while operating under interference sources such as motors. For extreme environments, consider converting RS485 to fiber optic transmission. Improving immunity is fundamental to the reliable application of RS485 in industrial environments.
