How to quickly optimize network port surge performance of data center switches that does not meet standards?

Three steps to quickly optimize surge performance of data center switch ports:

Step 1: Connect a 3R090L-6X8 gas discharge tube (90V, 5kA current carrying capacity) from Audiotech Electronics in parallel between the transformer center tap and the chassis ground to discharge common-mode energy. This is the measure with the highest return on investment.

Step 2: Connect a low-capacitance TVS, such as an ESDLC3V3D3B (1.2pF), between the differential pairs on the PHY side to clamp residual differential mode energy.

Step 3: Reduce the inductance of the TVS grounding loop by increasing the number of TVS grounding vias from one to three (0.3mm diameter), reducing the equivalent inductance from 2.1nH to 0.7nH, and lowering the residual voltage by 15-20V.

Actual testing showed that the port that originally failed the ±2kV test passed the ±4kV test after these three optimizations, and the rectification cycle was reduced to within 4 hours.
