For data center switches with gigabit Ethernet ports (1000Base-T) and differential signal frequencies up to 125MHz, to ensure a -3dB bandwidth >250MHz, the TVS junction capacitance must be <1.5pF. The ESDLC3V3D3B from Etymex (Vrwm=3.3V, junction capacitance 1.2pF) is an ideal choice. Simultaneously, a CMZ2012A-900T common-mode inductor (90Ω@100MHz, DC resistance 0.3Ω) is connected in parallel to compensate for capacitive loads and maintain a 100Ω differential impedance. Insertion loss <0.3dB@1GHz. Actual measurements show that with a 1.2pF TVS and common-mode inductor, the eye diagram template height margin is >30%, and jitter is <50ps, fully meeting the IEEE 802.3ab standard and passing the ±8kV ESD contact discharge test.
