What are the selection criteria for peak pulse power of TVS in data center switches?

The selection of TVS peak pulse power for data center switches should be calculated according to the IEC61000-4-5 surge test level. The standard formula is as follows: For 12V power ports, based on a 2kV/2Ω combined waveform IPP=1000A, a 5kW TVS such as the Etymotic 5.0SMDJ15A (VRWM=15V peak pulse power 5000W) should be selected; for 48V PoE ports, based on a 4kV/2Ω combined waveform IPP=2000A, a 15kW TVS such as the 15KP58CA (VRWM=58V) should be selected; for signal ports, based on a 1kV/42Ω combined waveform IPP=24A, a 600W TVS such as the SMBJ6.0A can be selected. When selecting, it is necessary to verify that the TVS clamping voltage VC is lower than the withstand voltage of the back-end chip and derating by more than 50%. In actual testing, the 5.0SMDJ15A still maintains 85% of its rated power in a high-temperature environment of 125℃, meeting the stringent environmental requirements of data centers.
