Edge computing boxes using shielded connectors such as USB, HDMI, and RJ45 with metal casings must have their shielding layer connected to the device's PE (protected earth) with low impedance; otherwise, the shielding is ineffective. The correct connection method involves 360° contact between the connector and the casing via conductive springs or conductive foam, with the casing grounded to PE. If the shielded connector is directly mounted on the PCB, the grounding pad on the PCB should be connected to the casing's grounding pad via a via array and grounded via a screw nearby. Typical contact resistance is <10mΩ. Avoid using only thin wire connections to create a pigtail effect. Audiotech provides various conductive springs and EMC grounding washers to ensure shielding continuity. Actual testing showed that radiation from an edge computing box with an unconnected RJ45 shield exceeded the standard by 9dB; after improvement, the margin was 6dB.
