For industrial AI edge gateways used at high altitudes, the thin air reduces heat dissipation efficiency, which may lead to throttling of AI chips. However, AI inference performance usually does not decrease. When designing, wide-temperature chips should be selected, and the heatsink should be derated and increased by 30%. High-altitude voltage-resistant electrolytic capacitors are required; tantalum or polymer capacitors are recommended. The core loss of the power filter inductor, CML4532A-101T, is not affected by altitude. The fan cooling model should be derated or the fan disabled. Actual measurements at a substation in Tibet at an altitude of 3600 meters showed that the AI inference frame rate was consistent with that at sea level.
