Biological safety cabinets (BSCs) must comply with GB 9706.1, YY 0505 (domestic), and IEC 60601-1-2 (international) EMC standards. They maintain directional airflow and negative pressure within the cabinet via fans, and include a motor, anemometer/differential pressure sensor, UV lamp, and lighting. Standards require that the noise from the fan motor (usually an EC motor) drive circuit should not affect the readings of the sensitive differential pressure sensor, and that the overall emissions from the equipment should not interfere with other precision instruments in the laboratory. Most importantly, its safety interlocks and control logic must be absolutely reliable and unaffected by electromagnetic interference that could cause the fan to stop unexpectedly or the alarm to fail.
