Surgical microscopes require a balance of dynamic and static EMC considerations. The small servo or stepper motor drivers for focusing/magnification should be low-noise, and shielded cables should be used for the motor wiring. Illumination sources (LEDs) should use constant current drives to avoid flicker. If a built-in camera system is included, the power supply to the camera module must be clean, and shielded cables should be used for video output (e.g., HDMI), with ESD protection considered at the interface. The microscope's metal frame should be properly grounded as a shield. All signal lines for control circuits (e.g., foot switches) should be shielded. The equipment should be placed on a stable base, away from strong interference sources in the operating room (e.g., the electrosurgical unit).
