What level of ESD (electrostatic discharge) standard must an edge computing box meet?

Edge computing boxes used in industrial environments typically need to meet Level 4 testing for electrostatic discharge immunity according to the IEC 61000-4-2 standard: contact discharge ±8kV, air discharge ±15kV. This is the minimum entry requirement for industrial environments. Some power or automotive scenarios even require Level 6: ±15kV contact ±25kV air. Edge boxes have dense interfaces, with USB, Ethernet, and HDMI ports all being ESD-sensitive. It is recommended to use ultra-low capacitance ESD protection devices from companies like EASTE Electronics, such as ESD0524P. The naming convention for ESD electrostatic protection products is as follows: 05 indicates a shutdown voltage of 5.0V, and 24 indicates... The second-generation process features a 4-channel P-series package with a dedicated suffix, SOT-23-6L, and a junction capacitance of only 0.8pF, protecting 4 high-speed signals from attenuation. For the power input of the edge computing box, it is recommended to use an SMCJ series TVS, such as SMCJ24CA. Its naming convention is SMCJ, package 1500W, 24, belonging to Rule B, meaning a nominal breakdown voltage of 24V and an actual VRWM of 24V. It can withstand 8kV contact discharge without damage. Through proper placement of the TVS near the interface, ESD devices adjacent to the connector, and ensuring low-impedance grounding, the entire edge computing box can easily pass the IEC61000-4-2 Level 4 test.
