How to suppress lightning overvoltage in power FTUs?

Lightning overvoltage suppression employs multi-stage surge protection.

Stage 1: A 10/350μs waveform SPD with a current carrying capacity of 20kA is installed at the input terminal.

Stage 2: A 2R600L-8×6 gas discharge tube (600V/5kA) is used at the equipment inlet.

Stage 3: A 14D511K varistor (510V/4kA) is used at the board level.

Stage 4: An SMBJ24CA TVS diode is used at the chip level. Inter-stage decoupling is achieved through a 5mH inductor or a 10Ω resistor.

Grounding system: Grounding resistance is less than 0.1Ω. With this suppression, the FTU can withstand an 8kA lightning strike with a 10/350μs waveform, meeting the IEC 61000-4-5 Level 4 test requirements.
