Why are Wafers Round?

2024-01-26
Why are wafers round?
Because the manufacturing process determines they are round. Purified high-purity polysilicon grows on a seed crystal by rotating. After the polysilicon is melted and placed in a quartz crucible, the seed crystal is placed in the crucible, rotated at a constant speed and pulled upward, then the molten silicon grows along the seed crystal into a cylindrical silicon ingot. This method is the CZ method (Czochralski) still in use today, also called the single crystal pulling method. As shown below:

Meaning of 8/20 Waveform and 10/350 Waveform on Surge Protective Device (SPD) Products

2024-01-25
Surge Protective Devices (SPD) are important devices used to protect electronic equipment from power surges or transient voltage effects. When we purchase SPD-related products, we find an important parameter behind their lightning protection capability discharge current KA —— 8/20us or 10/350us. What do these two parameters actually mean? Let's explore together.

1. Lightning Waveforms
8/20us and 10/350us both represent data on the time variation of impact pulse current, where 8/20us is a typical lightning breakdown of the ground (

Detailed Explanation of Automotive Three Electric Systems: Structure, Principles, and Importance

2024-01-23

The automotive three electric systems refer to the three core components of electric vehicles, namely the motor, battery, and electronic control system. Together, they form the power system of electric vehicles, responsible for driving the vehicle.1. Analysis Explanation
Motor
The motor is the power source of electric vehicles, responsible for converting electrical energy into mechanical energy to drive the wheels. There are many types of motors, such as DC motors, AC asynchronous motors, permanent magnet synchronous motors, etc. Among them, permanent magnet synchronous motors are widely used in electric vehicles due to their high efficiency, high power density, and good speed regulation performance.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Standards and Testing Content

Internationally, the development of electromagnetic compatibility standards has a history of over 70 years. Initially, to protect radio communication and broadcasting, the International Special Committee on Radio Interference (CISPR) proposed relevant electromagnetic interference emission limits and measurement methods for various electrical equipment and systems. By the 1960s-1970s, due to the miniaturization, digitization, and low power consumption of electronic and electrical equipment, people began to consider the anti-interference capability of equipment. Major international standardization organizations and national government agencies...

Seven Steps to Master MOSFET Selection Techniques

2024-01-09
MOSFET is a basic component in electronic manufacturing, but when facing MOSFETs with different packages, characteristics, and brands, how to choose? Is there a worry-free and labor-saving screening method?

Choosing the right MOSFET can well control production and manufacturing costs, and most importantly, match the product with the most appropriate component. This will fully play its "screw" role in the future use of the product, ensuring the most efficient, stable, and durable application of the equipment.

So when faced with a dazzling array of...

MOSFET Selection Rules

MOS Selection Rules

Introduction:
MOS (Metal Oxide Semiconductor) is a common circuit component widely used in integrated circuits. MOS selection rules refer to a series of rules and methods for selecting appropriate MOSFET models and parameters according to circuit requirements and performance specifications during circuit design. This article will introduce the basic concepts, application scenarios, and specific operational steps of MOS selection rules, helping readers understand and apply MOS selection rules.

Working Principle of IGBT

2023-12-20
In practical applications, the most popular and common electronic components are Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJT) and MOSFETs.

IGBT Physical Diagram + Circuit Symbol Diagram
You can think of IGBT as a fusion of BJT and MOSFET. IGBT has the input characteristics of BJT and the output characteristics of MOSFET.
Compared to BJT or MOSFET, the advantage of Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) is that it provides greater power gain than standard bipolar transistors, as well as higher operating voltage and lower MOS...

ESD Protection Circuit Design Experience Summary

2023-12-12
Static electricity from the human body, environment, and even inside electronic devices can cause various damages to delicate semiconductor chips, such as penetrating the thin insulating layer inside components; damaging the gates of MOSFET and CMOS components; latch-up in CMOS devices; short-circuiting reverse-biased PN junctions; short-circuiting forward-biased PN junctions; melting bonding wires or aluminum wires inside active devices. To eliminate the interference and damage caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD) to electronic devices, various technical means need to be taken for prevention.

In PCB board design, it can be achieved through layering...

Semiconductors Needed for Automobiles

Source: High Chip Circle
Not only for EVs and hybrid vehicles, but also for pure fuel vehicles, semiconductors are essential components. This is a fact that people have witnessed.

Take recent clean diesel vehicles (Clean Diesel Vehicle) as an example, their mode is as follows: each combustion cycle injects fuel about five times, effectively using fuel, extracting torque, although fuel consumption increases, but can discharge clean gas as much as possible.
