EMC protection for the monitor must be modularized. The ECG lead input front end should employ highly integrated bioelectrical protection devices (e.g., a filtered ESD array). The power supply to the photodetector of the SpO2 probe must be exceptionally clean, and an LC filter can be used. The motor drive wires of the NIBP gas pump should be twisted in pair and connected in parallel with a TVS diode (SMBJ24CA) at the pump's power supply terminal to absorb reverse peaks. The main power input port of the entire unit must have two levels of protection: the first level is a gas discharge tube (e.g., 2R090L series) to withstand lightning surges, and the second level is a varistor (e.g., 14D series) or TVS diode to withstand operational overvoltages. All external ports (network, USB) must use network transformers/connectors with isolation or filtering and ESD protection chips.
